Polyrhythmic Ostinatos - part 2

Example 1 | mp3

Here's three hi-hat (or ride cymbal) ostinatos, each line played 4 times.

Example 2 | mp3

The same ones, played in a 3-bar sequence.

The ostinato can also be viewed as being in 3/4, and played over 4/4.

Example 3 | mp3

The 3/4 ostinato, applied to bars 2 & 3 from Time Manipulation's Exercise 4

Example 4 | mp3 | Read Time Manipulation's Exercise 4

Then you can chain the sixteen bars from Exercise 4 (playing each bar twice), and still playing the 3/4 ostinato (which resolves every three bars).

  etc.
